Anna Maria College announces that it will hold the opening of the Art  Exhibit, Witness to New England: A Collection of Winslow Homer Wood Engravings on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the College’s Art Gallery, Miriam Hall, Paxton, MA.  The wood engravings are part of an art collection owned by AMC alumna, Suzanne Kelly ’59, who is sharing it with the College to kick-off Reunion and Homecoming weekend.

Most of Homer’s engravings were published in Harper’s Weekly where he worked as a freelance illustrator between 1857 and 1876 before his career as a painter was fully launched. Some of his best engravings were also published in the publication Every Saturday.

This example of Americana art will remain on display until October 26, 2012.  Gallery hours for this exhibit are Saturday, October 20th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 to 11:00 p.m.; Sunday, October 21st from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; and Saturday, October 26th, the last day of the exhibit, from10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Gallery hours Monday through Friday are 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
