B.S. in Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Anna Maria College is an RN-to-BSN program designed for busy professionals. It provides an opportunity for registered nurses to expand their professional options for nursing practice in the 21st century. Whether a seasoned professional RN or a newly minted Associate of Science in Nursing graduate, students in the program will find here a contemporary nursing curriculum with themes of transcultural nursing, the environment and health, and concern for ethical and moral values—all built on a strong foundation in the liberal arts to prepare our graduates to provide compassionate care for diverse populations.

Our unique curriculum includes courses in case management, environmentally related illness, biomedical moral issues, complementary health care, and cardiac nursing. Throughout the program we stress evidence-based practice, nursing informatics and critical thinking and writing. One attractive feature of our program is the development of an individual educational plan for each student that allows him/her to choose nursing courses of particular interest and to progress through the program quickly.

Nursing Program

At Anna Maria College we are a caring learning community, where adults share knowledge as colleagues. Busy professionals will find here a schedule of classes suited to their needs. Classes are taught in the late afternoon and evening and individually designed clinical experiences are scheduled by the student. Upon entrance into the program the student with his or her academic advisor develops an individual educational plan. Students meet with their academic advisor each semester to plan their courses for the upcoming semester.

Organization of the Nursing Program

As with the Associate degree program at Anna Maria College, the RN-BSN program is organized around the Neuman Systems Model which guides nurses in providing holistic care in the physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual dimensions of life.

Students are required to complete the 300-level courses before going on to the 400-level courses. The first nursing course, NUS 301 Professional Nursing, provides the foundational knowledge and skills to assure success in the program. NUS 302 focuses on health assessment, health promotion and health education. In NUS 304 students develop research skills and formulate a plan to utilize nursing research in their own practice.

Following completion of the 300-level nursing courses, students progress to two clinical courses and may choose two additional nursing courses which present important aspects of professional nursing, such as leadership and management skills, case management, environmentally related illness, and cardiac care.
