Anna Maria College offers both a Master's Degree as well as Certificate Programs in Emergency Management with classes held at night and on weekends. These programs provide the managerial, communication, and analytical skills required for handling emergency situations in both the public and private sectors. The curriculum addresses natural and technological hazards and intentional threats such as terrorist acts. The programs are designed for those interested in entering or advancing in the field of emergency management.


Master of Science

To earn a master's degree, students must complete five required courses, eight elective courses (or three Graduate Certificate Programs in Emergency Management), as well as write a thesis. This work is in addition to any other School of Graduate Studies requirements.


The five courses required by the program include:

Ethical Theory (Division of Graduate Studies requirement)
Essentials of Emergency Management
Hazard Analysis and Risk Management
Incident Command System (ICS)
Principles of Occupational Health and Safety
Principles of Emergency Response Planning and Management

The School of Graduate Studies requires GS 600, Ethical Theory, (or equivalent).


Certificate Programs

Graduate Certificates in Emergency Management may be earned either on track to earning the master's degree, or as areas of focused study. Each certificate requires successful completion of four courses in any of the following five concentrations:

Analysis and Planning for Natural and Technological Hazards
Emergency Planning and Mitigation for Human Health
Terrorism and Homeland Defense
Advanced Managerial Functions
Search and Rescue

Anna Maria offers a wide range of elective Emergency Management courses including:
