Music Education and Music Therapy is a demanding double major offered jointly by the Divisions of Humanities, Arts and International Studies and Human Development and Human Services. The program prepares students to work in both the educational and therapy settings. The College's programs are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).


Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Music Therapy

The Massachusetts Department of Education requires that candidates for teacher licensure in Music Education should be prepared for certification at all grade levels (K-12) in Vocal, Instrumental, and General Music.  Students must perform a minimum of 300 hours of student teaching, consisting of 150 hours at two of three levels (elementary, middle, high).

In addition to College requirements, Music Education and Music Therapy majors must complete:

Music Theory
Ear Training and Musicianship
Piano Class
Clinical Musicianship
History of Music
Musical Therapy
Psychology of Music


Admission to the Music Therapy Program

Students may begin their music therapy coursework in the first semester. However, students are not formally admitted into the music therapy program until the completion of the sophomore review process.
