Mission
The Anna Maria College School of Business is committed to preparing its students to excel professionally and build careers in today’s evolving business environment. It is focused on creating an academic milieu that has as one of its hallmarks “the integration of college and career readiness.”  The AMC School of Business has a steadfast focus on the business-corporate, healthcare, not-for-profit, small business, financial services, and government sectors through the delivery of a robust liberal arts-based business education coupled with career training and relevant work / internship experiences. The administration, staff, and faculty of the School of Business are all committed to both the intellectual and experiential growth of the students as individuals and recognize that students are the heart of the School and their preparation is the sole purpose of the academic programs. Our committed and knowledgeable team is also sensitive to the needs and input of the business community and potential employers of our graduates. The Business School will integrate this knowledge with a hands-on, individualized instruction to provide our graduates with the skills, knowledge, attributes and competency to begin their careers quickly.

The Business Program
An AMC business degree provides students with a broad exposure to all the crucial elements that make an organization function well. It also provides a specialization that more targeted degrees offer (such as marketing, financial services, project management, not-for-profit or small business management), but at its core it brings value in its generalist approach. AMC business students also receive an overview of many functions in the business world and study how these functions interact.

 

The Business School also focuses on the development of key business skills. An AMC business degree includes working with numbers and statistical analysis, as well as generating creative ideas and solutions.  In addition, students have the opportunity to 'see the big picture' relative to organizational structures while taking into consideration the goals of the group, and the raw materials or rough data, and developing plans to move projects forward. All business school students are given the tools to communicate concise written and verbal information, excel at team work, and work well under sometimes sustained pressure and deadlines.

The Fifth Year Option
Students in their senior year may ‘jump-start’ their graduate education by enrolling in up to six (6) credits of graduate coursework, thus potentially completing their graduate degree in business in the 5th year.  The Masters of Business Administration program is offered on-ground and online with multiple concentrations.

Why Get a Business Degree?

Business is an area where education--even for established professionals--is crucial in order to remain competitive. A results-oriented business education, one which combines real-life applications with established theories, is important for our students’ success in an increasingly competitive and technologically sophisticated business world.

 

A college degree in business is a highly practical area of study since the curriculum provides students with crucial real-world experience--and thus a smoother transition from college to career. Students will be advised to prepare for the constant changes in the job market. Instead of focusing all of their studies on a single high-demand field, AMC’s programs will assist them in pursuing a path that is more in line with their own interests and talents. It is difficult to predict how the employment market will change, so looking at an education as a jumping-off point rather than a definitive line to a specific job title or industry builds flexibility for our graduates.

 

Career Education in Business
Whether our students study on campus or online, college courses in business administration can lead directly toward fast-track positions. A degree from the AMC School of Business develops students’ leadership skills and trains them to approach obstacles with proven methods and innovative solutions.
 
Our business degree programs include courses in accounting, finance, economics, management, marketing, business analysis, and computer applications. We also encourage the study of organizational behavior, ethics, change management, social interaction, and business-based research. Students who wish to balance classroom theory with real-life experience are encouraged to pursue one of the many internship opportunities available in the local area.  This, coupled with the strong liberal arts core of Anna Maria College, ensures our graduates are well-rounded candidates as they enter the business world.
 

Bachelor's Degrees in Business
A bachelor's degree in business or business administration is generally the minimum requirement for entry-level business careers. As a graduate of our Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program, students will be prepared to pursue a variety of career entry positions that include accounting, financial services, economics, human resources, information technology, and sales and marketing in almost any field of today’s business environment.

 
Master's Degrees in Business
For individuals who are already working in the business field, and who want a competitive skills advantage or are seeking advancement or a change in career, the AMC on–ground and online business administration degrees are tailored toward the needs of both working adults and recent graduates interested in AMC’s 5th year option.

David P. Forsberg

David P. Forsberg joined Anna Maria College on July 1, 2013 as Dean of the School of Business.  He has been associated with the College since 2011 serving as a member of the Board of Trustees.  Most recently, Dean Forsberg served as a visiting instructor of political science at the College of the Holy Cross and also served as interim president/CEO for Lutheran Social Services of New England, Inc.

Dean Forsberg’s career spans over three decades of public administration and service.  His career began in Worcester, first as an at-large Councilor and then as the District 1 Councilor for the City.  In 1989, he served as the New England Regional Administrator-Regional Housing Commissioner for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).   In 1990, Dean Forsberg was appointed as Secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and, in 1992, he returned to Worcester as the Chief Development Officer for the City.  In 1997, he joined Massport in Boston as the Director of Business Development where he remained until 1999, when he returned once again to Worcester to work with the Worcester Business Development Corporation (WBDC).

Dean Forsberg is best known locally for his work as the past president of the WBDC, where he was responsible for directing strategic development initiatives to meet the business goals of the corporation, as well as developing alliances with the regional business community.  Key projects that were led by Dean Forsberg include Gateway Park and the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts.  Past teaching experiences include instructor in urban studies at Worcester Academy, instructor in urban politics, Assumption College and Worcester State University, and visiting lecturer in public administration at Clark University.

Dean Forsberg is a graduate of Worcester Academy and Bowdoin College and received a Master’s in Urban Affairs from Boston University.  He also studied at Harvard Divinity School. 

Dean Forsberg is a past member of the Board of Directors of Lutheran Social Services of New England and currently sits on the board of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau. He is the past recipient of the Worcester State College Community Service Medallion, the Boston University, Metropolitan College Alumni Award for Public Service to the Community and the Bowditch Award presented by the Worcester Business Development Corporation.
