Art Therapy Major

Bachelor of Arts in Art Therapy

The art therapy program prepares undergraduate students for the master's degree program in art therapy and art therapy licensing through the American Art Therapy Association. The curriculum is evenly balanced between art courses, psychology, and human services courses, and include courses in art therapy theory and methods, a senior capstone course, and an art therapy internship.


In addition to the College and Art core requirements, Art Therapy majors must complete two electives from either art or psychology, a six credit internship in a supervised art therapy setting, as well as the following:

Intro to Sculpture & Pottery
Intro to Psychology
Developmental Disabilities
Art Therapy I

Plus four Child and Adult Development courses from the lists below:

Child Theory (two courses)
Learning Disabilities
Psychology of the Exceptional Child
Child Development
Adolescent Psychology

Adult Theory (two courses)
Working with the Elderly
Growth and Behavior and the Social Environment II
Advanced General Psychology
Marriage and the Family
