Calling #AMCATNation: Feb. 5 #AMCATFriday Photo Opp
Join #AMCATNATION for a photo tomorrow, Feb. 5 at 11:30 a.m. in the Information Commons. All are welcome to participate by showing up in their AMCAT gear. The #AMCATFriday initiative was launched last semester as a way for the College community to display their Anna Maria pride. Join President Mary Lou Retelle, as well as fellow students, faculty and staff for this group photo opportunity.

Sixteen AMCATS Land on All-Academic Team
Sixteen members of the Anna Maria Football team made the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) 2015-2016 All-Academic honoree list. Among other requirements, honorees must achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30. Congratulations to the AMCATS who made the list.

HECCMA on the Hill
President Mary Lou Retelle was among the area college presidents who participated in “HECCMA on the Hill” on Wednesday at the Statehouse. As part of this Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts-coordinated event, President Retelle, Dr. Lisa Summer and Music Therapy students Bryanna Tobin and Julie Archambault discussed Anna Maria’s positive impact on the area community with state legislators, including Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo (D-Winthrop), the Joint Committee on Higher Education Co-chairs Sen. Michael O. Moore (D-Millbury) and Rep. Tom Sannicandro (D-Ashland) and Sen. Harriette L. Chandler (D-Worcester).


Students Show Artwork in Worcester College Gallery
The artwork of Anna Maria students Callie Mulcahy, Suzy Pekar and Diane Vankevich was selected to be on display as part of an upcoming exhibit at Arts Worcester Gallery.  The show touts that it “exhibits the best artwork of the area's college students, regardless of their major.” The exhibit opens with a reception tomorrow, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. that is free to all.

Dr. Lisa Summer Makes Global Impact for Music Therapy
In January, Dr. Lisa Summer traveled to Seoul, South Korea to share her knowledge and expertise with the Ewha Womans University. While there, the university celebrated the opening of their Music Wellness Center, where Dr. Summer presented an opening speech. She spoke to the historical and different perspectives of the Wellness Center for the Global Music Therapy Community. She also led trainings and supervised groups of students practicing Music Therapy. 

Delorey Reaches 1,000th Point Career Milestone
Last night, Men's Basketball Co-captain Tyler Delorey became the first AMCAT to score 1,000 points since 2013. Delorey is the 22nd AMCAT to reach the career milestone in the men’s basketball history. Read more about the game. 

Are You Ready for Some (Flag) Football?
There will be no Mass held on Superbowl Sunday (Feb. 7). Instead, join Campus Ministry for Mass at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6 followed by flag football in the Fuller Activities Center.

Student Leadership Challenge Unveiled
Throughout the course of the semester, join the Student Leadership Challenge that kicks off Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Zecco Performing Arts Center. The Challenge will consist of a number of speaker presentations and other leadership-building programs for students. Jen Lombardi, the Challenge’s first featured speaker, will emphasize the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership on Feb. 8.

Happy Birthday, Anna Maria College
The College will celebrate 70 years since its founding in April. In next week’s Insider, look for details on an upcoming communications campaign leading up to the April 23 anniversary and related events to recognize this milestone.

The Paxton Police Department recently held its first Civilian Police Academy, teaching civilians a wide range of subjects about the criminal justice system. Ann Marie Mires was one of the instructors and her portion was listed as a favorite by participants. Read more here. (Photo by The Landmark)

Feb4 Bruins

Students attended the Providence Bruins v. Springfield Falcons game at the Dunkin Donuts Center this past Fri., Jan 29. The Bruins won eight to one. 

Feb4 alumni

Alumni, students, faculty and staff gathered on Sunday, Jan. 31 for a friendly competition at the Annual Alumni Basketball Game. The crowd honored Luis Frias '83 for his recent induction to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.
