Junior Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) of the Anna Maria College volleyball team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ First Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday evening.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes across the country for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Foti becomes the first volleyball player and only the second student-athlete in AMCAT history to earn this award.
An art therapy and psychology double-major with a 3.92 GPA, Foti was instrumental in the volleyball team’s historic season. Under her leadership, the AMCATS posted a program-best 21-11 record, went on a record eight-match winning streak, and advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) semifinals for the first time in program history.
Foti totaled 449 kills this season and ranks second in the conference in kills per set (4.01). She also served a team second-best 59 service aces and added 198 digs.
Off the court, Foti is involved in a number of school activities. She represents Anna Maria and serves as publicist on the Worcester Student Government Association and is the senator for visual and performing arts on Anna Maria’s SGA. She also serves as the volleyball representative to the Anna Maria Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Foti also works with the Clarette Refugee Fund, where she has led groups to start fundraisers to support the cause and has also worked with college students to raise school supplies for underprivileged children in Rwanda.
Joining Foti on the seven-member first team are student-athletes from WPI, MIT, Springfield, and Clark.
First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
