About the Anna Maria College Counseling Service
The Anna Maria College Counseling Service provides individual counseling to assist students as they pursue educational and personal goals with the ultimate goal of enhanced quality of life. Counseling is a collaborative process in which the student works with his or her clinician to improve his or her quality of life.
Initial assessment and evaluation are generally made in the first 2 sessions. For those students in need of more intensive on-going psychotherapy, referrals to practitioners and resources in the community are provided. Costs for outside referrals are done through the student's insurance carrier, and the long-term or intensive psychotherapy is billed to the student's insurance.

Counseling Resources
Consultation Services & Outreach Programs
Faculty, staff, and parents who are concerned about a student on campus can call the Counseling Service for assistance in dealing with troublesome situations. Outreach programs are conducted on campus and include free mental health screenings and interactive learning formats designed to raise awareness about wellness topics like alcohol, anxiety, and sleep.
Students are able to download information about various mental illnesses, ask questions, make appointments, and seek help anonymously via the Internet, a medium they are comfortable using.

Outreach - Self Help Materials
The Counseling Service offers educational programs that support student development including workshops on stress management, guided imagery and conflict resolution.

AMC offers the following helpful materials to students and families dealing with crises or trauma:

> Managing Traumatic Stress
> Supporting Yourself and Others

> Important Considerations in Helping Others
