Ash Wednesday – February 17th – Mass at 12:30pm; Service at 3:30pm – Madore Chapel

Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent for all Christians throughout the world. We honor this through prayer, fasting, and abstinence on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and abstaining from meat on each Friday during Lent. On Ash Wednesday, Christians wear the cross of ashes on their foreheads to unite with Christ’s prayer and meditation for 40 days in the desert before he began his earthly ministry.

Stations of the Cross – Wednesdays (Feb. 24th; March 3rd, 17th, 24th, and 31st) at 3:00pm – Madore Chapel
The Stations of the Cross also known as The Way of the Cross, follows the steps that Christ took in the last hours of his life before giving his life on the Cross. This tradition originated in Jerusalem when people would take pilgrimages there and literally walk in the footsteps of the Lord. As Christianity grew and as it became more difficult to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, local churches started to create images of The Way of the Cross so that Christians need not have to travel all the way to Jerusalem to follow in the steps of Christ.

February 28th --- Bella
“An international soccer star is on his way to sign a multi-million dollar contract when something happens that brings his career to an abrupt end. A waitress, struggling to make it in New York City, discovers something about herself that she's unprepared for. In one irreversible moment, their lives are turned upside down...until an impetuous action brings them together and turns an ordinary day into an unforgettable experience. Once a famous athlete, and now a cook at his brother's Mexican restaurant, José has retreated from the world but he recognizes something in Nina, a young waitress, and reaches out to her. In the course of a single day, he not only confronts his past but shows her how the healing power of a family can help her embrace the future.”

March 28th --- The Passion of the Christ
Mel Gibson directed this adaptation of the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ. This offers a deep look into the scenes and the people of that time.
We will be showing this on Palm Sunday (also called Passion Sunday) where the tradition is to read the Passion of the Lord.
What a great way to make the start of Holy Week!

About Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry focuses on the care of the whole person: spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically as they relate to their own life and their relationship with God. Our goal is to offer opportunities for faith development through encouraging a personal relationship with God and building a faith community on campus. Faith development takes on many forms: worship and liturgy, sacramental preparation, retreats, faith education, spirituality, formation for leadership, pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, community building, social activities, and service outreach. An alive faith extends far beyond the walls of a chapel and colors how we live all our days.

Responding to ethical issues and participating in projects that highlight peace and justice in our world are priorities. Campus Ministry programs offer a forum to engage in discussions with faculty, staff, administrators, and students on topics that are relevant to culture and society. Campus Ministry also sponsors lectures and activities that make faith and justice real components of living out the Gospel.

Since AMC is a Catholic college, our programs flow from our Catholic tradition and stress the practices of the Catholic religion. However, all our programs are open to non-Catholics and take into account the interfaith reality of our campus population.

Day of Caring 2009 --- Another Huge Success!

Over 300 students boarded buses in front of Madonna Hall at Anna Maria College to travel to Worcester to take part in the United Way’s Day of Caring.  As part of its mission as a Sister’s of Saint Anne College to serve the Common Good, AMC students, faculty and staff participate every year in the Day of Caring, as well as engage in other social service initiatives locally, and nationally through Habitat for Humanity.

During this year’s Day of Caring, students visited approximately 12 different sites throughout the greater Worcester community and raked, cleaned, painted and conducted other tasks that were needed to help area non-profit agencies address maintenance issues that they otherwise would not be able to afford.

Service Projects

There are opportunities for students to take part in service to the Anna Maria Community and to the local community at large. Please see Maria in Campus Ministry to get involved. The HABACATS, AMC’s Habitat group is also a way for students to get involved in service. Students in the club help with fundraising events during our winter and spring break trips; help educate the community; and of course help with builds all across the United States.  Students have taken trips to Michigan, Florida, and Louisiana. This group is a way for the college to give back to people in need.
