Head Coach: Shawn Conrad
Shawn Conrad enters his fourth season as head coach of the Anna Maria men's basketball program. He brings 25 years of coaching experience to the position, including 22 years at the collegiate level.
Prior to becoming the seventh head coach in the program's history, Conrad gained experience coaching at all levels. He began his coaching career at his Alma Mater, St. Peter-Marian HIgh School in 1986. After three years at the high school level, Coach Conrad elevated to the collegiate level, accepting the position of head coach at Quinsigamond Community College. Under his leadership, the QCC team posted a superb 131-55 record. He earned NJCAA Region 21 Division III Coach of the Year honors three times while leading the team to four straight Massachusetts Community College State Championships and two appearances in the NJCAA Regional 21 Finals.
Coach Conrad then joined his Alma Mater, Assumption College, where he worked under legendary Coach Serge DeBari as part of a staff that led the Greyhounds from the bottom of the NE-10 Conference to back-to-back appearances in the Conference Championship his last two seasons. This includes a NE-10 Conference Title during the 1997-98 season and a trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament where the Greyhounds advanced to the Regional Semifinals.
Coach Conrad then moved on to The College of the Holy Cross for the 99-00 season, where he had the opportunity to work under yet another legendary head coach in Ralph Willard. During his one season at Holy Cross, Coach Conrad was instrumental in laying the foundation that would bring the team to three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths from 2001-2003.
During the 2000-01 season, Conrad joined Bryant University and spent one season working under head coach Eddie Reilly.
Conrad then made his first appearance at Anna Maria College as an Assistant Coach under now Athletic Director Dave Shea. He spent two seasons at AMC, including the 02-03 season in which he helped the AMCATS go 15-12 and reach the TCCC Conference Semifinals.
Following that season, Conrad took the position of head coach at Fitchburg State College where he coached for three years and led the team to double digit wins twice.
His lifetime of experience combined with his knowledge of the AMC program from his time coaching here makes Shawn the perfect candidate to be the first new head coach for the men's program in 10 years.
Coach Conrad is committed to restoring the great tradition that is Anna Maria Basketball.
Conrad currently resides in Holden, Mass. with his wife Christine and their three children; Meghan (Boston College '10), Daniel (Assumption '12), and Brian (Anna Maria '13).
