Joanne McDonnell has been an educator since 1981 as a teacher for the Amherst Public Schools, Millbury Public Schools, the Shrewsbury Public Schools, and as an Educational Consultant for the University of Massachusetts Medical School Regional Science Resource Center. Joanne is a member of the Central Massachusetts Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) advisory board which analyzes and implements STEM initiatives throughout Central Massachusetts. Joanne also provides professional training for teachers in Massachusetts focusing on STEM and literacy. Joanne has partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to present a Summer Institute Program titled Developing Students' Conceptual Knowledge in Science as well as presenting at the State STEM Summit. Joanne has been a Program Reviewer for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to evaluate teacher preparation programs for program renewal. Joanne has a commitment to work in the community and provides ongoing professional development for the Worcester Public Schools. She has served as an advisor to the Union Hill Elementary School for a Level 4 action plan, a community partner with the Ecotarium Science Museum to analyze the feasibility of an early childhood program and had a long-standing partnership with the Regional Science Resource Center at U. Mass Medical School to mentor middle school girls in a program titled: Women in Science. Joanne is a committed member of several professional organizations including Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development (ASCD), National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
