“Ain’t I a Woman!” bringing history to life
Tuesday, February 9, 2010
7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Zecco Auditorium
The Core Ensemble of Florida will stage “Ain’t I a Woman!” It is the latest in a series of multicultural and feminist performance pieces produced by the ensemble over the past decade. The four women profiled are Zora Neale Hurston, ex-slave and abolitionist Sojourner Truth, folk artist Clementine Hunter and civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer. The score is drawn from the spirituals and blues of the Deep South, the urban vitality of the Jazz Age, and contemporary concert music by African-Americans.
