2009-01-05 20:12:09 Last Friday, I was reading the stories about the former Senator from Rhode Island, Claiborne Pell, who had died on New Year’s Day. While his long and distinguished career as both a business man and a public servant was noteworthy in many ways, I will always be grateful to Mr. Pell for the extraordinary role he played in creating educational opportunity and promoting the arts.
