AMC Students in Vienna Attend Class in Paxton
Anna Maria College announces that eleven of its honors students who are studying in Vienna, Austria are learning side-by-side with their fellow students in Paxton, Massachusetts as part of a new “Virtual Classroom.” With the assistance of Skype, a webcam and other technology, students living and studying in Austria for the fall semester are able to attend, in real time, the World Cultures and Geography Honors Class being taught at AMC’s Paxton campus.
With the use of interactive technology, Professor James Bidwell is teaching undergraduate students in two different parts of the world at the same time. Students in Vienna are able to both see and hear Professor Bidwell, who in turn is able to communicate directly with the students in Vienna and call on them as part of the classroom instruction. In addition, students in Vienna and Paxton are able to see one another and can engage in open dialog as if they were all in the same room together.
The trip to Vienna is a unique study abroad opportunity that is offered to Honors Program students at Anna Maria College. The students travel as a group with Dr. Paul Russell, director of the AMC Honors Program. Dr. Jack Calareso, President of Anna Maria College, plans to make a trip to Vienna during the fall semester to visit with the students who are studying there in cooperation with with the Austro-American Institute. AMC also offers traditional study abroad opportunities for all its students.
