Athletics

Men’s Soccer: After an excellent junior season, AMCAT forward George Markopoulos (Worcester, Mass.) was selected as a member of the All-TCCC Second Team. Markopoulos led the TCCC with five game-winning goals, while also finishing second in total scores with 12 and shots with 66. He is currently third all-time at Anna Maria in both goals (22) and points (48).

Women’s Volleyball: The Anna Maria College women’s volleyball team was the recipient of the TCCC Team Sportsmanship Award. The AMCATS improved dramatically in their first season under new Head Coach Elysce Tackmann. With all but two players from this year’s roster returning next year, the club will be looking to take the next step.

Junior Brittany Langdeau (Wolcott, Conn.) was a major factor in the team’s improved play. Langdeau set the all-time AMC record for digs in a season and digs in a career in 2008. Her 279 digs this season broke the previous record of 226 set by Jenn DeCambra (Somerset, Mass.) in 2005. In doing so, she set the all-time career mark for digs at AMC with 608. Brittany finished third in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference by averaging 3.99 digs per game. That was the second best digs per game average in AMC history, trailing only Stacey Jordan (Hopkinton, Mass.) who averaged 4.35 digs per game during the 2005 season. Langdeau is averaging 3.38 digs per game for her career, which also currently ranks as the second best career digs per game average in the program’s history behind only Emilee Mercer (Southboro, Mass.).
