Ten AMCATS earn a point in 15-1 win over Rivier

PAXTON, Mass.  – The Anna Maria College men’s lacrosse team had 10 players finish with at least one point, as the AMCATS defeated Rivier College in the Raiders’ program opener, 15-1, at AMCAT Field on Wednesday night. With the win, the AMCATS improve to 2-3 on the year, while the loss drops the Raiders to 0-1 to begin their inaugural season.
 
The AMCATS were led by freshman Rodrigo Henriques (Saugus, Mass.) who had a team-high five points on three goals and two assists. Freshman Chris Summers (Morris, N.J.) added four points on two goals and two assists, while junior Luke Biggins (Sudbury, Mass.) had three goals and seven ground balls in addition to winning 11-of-12 face-off attempts. Freshman Niko Langlois (Hatfield, Mass.) chipped in with two goals of his own, while sophomore Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, R.I.) led all players with 9 ground balls in his season debut. Freshman goalkeeper Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the AMCATS, improving his record to 2-1 on the year.
 
The Raiders were paced by freshman Randy Perrine (Merrimack, N.H.) who scored the program’s historic first goal with 1:46 remaining in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Corey Oliverio (Salem, N.H.) also played well, grabbing three ground balls while winning 5-of-8 face-off attempts. Freshman goalkeeper Matt Besaw (Glen Falls, N.Y.) was busy in net for the Raiders, making 24 saves on the night, including eight in the fourth quarter alone.
 
The AMCATS held a hefty advantage in shots (66-6), ground balls (70-17), and face-offs (15-20) against the first-year Raiders.
 
Both teams will return to action on Saturday, with the Raiders facing Husson on the road at 2:00 pm, and the AMCATS traveling to battle the University of New England at 3:30 pm.
