Welcome to Anna Maria College

Welcome to Anna Maria College. As the tenth president of this great institution of higher learning, I am proud to say that this is an extraordinary time to be a part of our campus community. With our new Strategic Plan: “Vision 2012: Excellence at Anna Maria College” as our guide, we are working hard to link our rich and important past with a dynamic and challenging future for the College, our students, and the communities we serve.

Over the next few years, you will see a new Anna Maria College emerge as we expand our curricular and co-curricular programs to meet the needs of our growing student population. New academic programs for undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of the arts, the sciences, business, education, social services and criminal justice will be introduced. An expanded array of student activities and five new competitive sports teams including football, lacrosse and tennis will be initiated to support student interests. We are also opening a new instructional site in the city of Worcester to better serve the growing number of non-traditional and graduate students.

Most important, we will continue to preserve, cherish and promote the values of the Sisters of Saint Anne, who founded AMC in 1946. Their commitment to excellence in education, hospitality and service remain the hallmarks of an Anna Maria education. Our commitment of service to the Common Good remains steadfast as we graduate women and men of character who contribute to the quality of life in their communities.

Anna Maria College has always been and will continue to be a community of scholars and learners where the integration of knowledge, the search for truth, the dialogue between faith and reason, the development of the mind and the heart, and the concern for ethical and moral implications are at the core of what we do. Our Board of Trustees, distinguished faculty and talented staff are all dedicated to living out this vision by focusing on one goal: Excellence at Anna Maria College.

Welcome to Anna Maria College!

There are many exhilarating times in the life of a college. But none is more exciting than Commencement. It is the chance to share in and recognize the success of our students. Beginning with our Baccalaureate Mass Friday evening and culminating with Commencement on Saturday morning, it is simply the best time of the year. On behalf of our Board of Trustees, our Faculty, staff and administrators, and the over 14,000 active alumni/ae around the world, I extend my congratulations to the...   See more

The Crisis of Education in America

I like newspapers … more specifically, I like to read editorials and op ed pieces. I read columnists whose views are like my own, and I read columnists whose views I find most disagreeable. I am interested in local issues, national debates and international concerns. I am interested in how they write, the issues they choose to write about, and the influence their opinions have on the issues. When I read an op ed piece I like, if only for the way it is written, I will send it to friends and...   See more

What Makes a College Catholic?

Colleges and universities throughout the country share much in common… students and faculty, curriculum and co-curricular programs, etc. However, there are also significant differences between institutions … differences related to size (large universities and small colleges), educational focus (research institutions and liberal arts universities), types of students (commuter schools and residential campus; undergraduate, graduate and non-traditional students), and types of programs...   See more

The Importance of Student Assessment

Published 2008-04-15 07:02:06

As we approach the end of the semester, many on campus have thoughts of Spring, life after graduation and the planned activities for the summer months. But my thoughts turn to assessment. Assessment is a major issue on most college campuses. In the past decade, there has been greater emphasis placed on assessing the efficacy of programs, services and personnel. The collection and analysis of assessment data has become central to accreditation and integral to the movement of greater...   See more
