Julieann M. Hartley from Bow, NH was the 2012 recipient of the Dr. Bernadette Madore Award presented annually to the graduating senior, who as a full-time student, earned the highest cumulative grade point average in a minimum of 90 semester hours. This award was established by the faculty and staff of Anna Maria College to commemorate Dr. Bernadette Madore’s twenty-five years of distinguished service as Dean of the College. Ms. Hartley’s GPA was 3.991. She is also an Honors student and was selected to be the student speaker representing the undergraduate class at the Commencement ceremony
Ashley M. Maryyanek from Boylston, MA was this year’s recipient of the Bishop Timothy J. Harrington Award. This annual award is bestowed upon a graduating senior judged by a committee of faculty, staff, students and administration of the College to have demonstrated compassionate service in the promotion of peace and justice. Ms. Maryyanek was recognized for her many accomplishments on campus including helping to organize a coat drive for the homeless, a back-pack drive for recently emigrated elementary school students, and an annual Department of Families and Children Christmas Party, as well as her off-campus volunteer efforts with the Family Law Foundation through the Worcester Probate Court, Clinton Hospital and Holden Senior Center. Ms. Maryyanek’s reach also extended beyond Worcester to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where she spent part of her 2012 Winter Break helping with the construction of a community center, volunteering at a hospice for children with HIV/AIDS and tutoring at a local orphanage.
Ms. Maryyanek graduated AMC with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is a member of the Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Social Work and has been on Dean’s List every semester.
