Blair sets AMC freshman mark for blocks and rebounds
Blair grabbed an AMC rookie record 229 boards
PAXTON, Mass. – Anna Maria College freshman Chelsea Blair (Holland, Mass.) set program records this year with 229 rebounds and 44 blocks in her freshman season. Blair surpasses Stacey Cline’s previous freshman records of 222 rebounds and 27 blocks set in 1997-98.
Needless to say, Blair had an excellent rookie campaign, averaging 9.5 rebounds, 7.7 points, 1.9 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game. She had 10 games with double-digit rebounds, compiled six double-doubles, and was twice named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. Some of her season highlights include grabbing 20 rebounds versus New England College, recording seven blocks versus Western New England College, and compiling 22 points, 13 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in a career-night versus Nichols College.
Chelsea helped the AMCATS total double-digit victories for the first time since the 2001-02 season. Along with Blair, the AMCATS have a strong core of young players to build around, including sophomores Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.), Marry Moroski (Worcester, Mass.), Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.), and freshmen Allison McCarthy (Lynn, Mass.), and Tonique Adkins (New Haven, Conn.). The AMCATS went from winning one game in 2007-08 to capturing 10 wins just two seasons later, evidence that Anna Maria women’s basketball is a program on the rise and one worth keeping an eye on next season. |
