Baccalaureate Mass / Hooding Ceremony

Friday, May 10, 2019
5:30 p.m. - Graduating students must line up in Foundress by 5:00 p.m.
Fuller Activities Center
Anna Maria College

Commencement Weekend begins on Friday with the Baccalaureate Mass and Hooding Ceremony, and culminates with Commencement Exercises on Saturday.  The Baccalaureate Mass/Hooding Ceremony combines a celebration of your academic success with the mission of the College through celebration of Mass and the Hooding of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Recipients. It is always a moving moment for the faculty member of your choice to place your hood upon you.

What is the Baccalaureate Mass?
Baccalaureate Mass is a Catholic Mass, celebrating the Sacrament of the Eucharist and graduating students. The Baccalaureate Mass combines a Catholic liturgy with the hooding of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree recipients. All members of the Anna Maria College community and their guests are invited to attend the Mass, regardless of faith.

What is the hooding?
At the conclusion of the Baccalaureate Mass, your chosen faculty member places the hood around your shoulders, recognizing your academic success. Your hood (the part of your regalia that resembles a scarf) represents the degree that you have earned.

Bachelor’s Degree Recipients: To ensure your chosen faculty member will attend, click here for a Hooding Invitation.
Master’s Degree Recipients: Your program chair and faculty will be present to hood you (hooding invitation not necessary).

Robing for the Mass will be held in Foundress Hall Room 117 on campus; all students must arrive by 5 p.m. All Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree students participating in the Baccalaureate Mass and Hooding Ceremony should wear your gowns and carry your hoods over your left arm, no caps will be worn.

Bachelor’s Degree students graduating with academic honors will receive your honor cords from the Registrar prior to Baccalaureate Mass and carry them with your hoods.  Honor Society cords/medallions may be worn for Baccalaureate and Commencement (please see your society’s advisor for details).
