Summer at Anna Maria
Although the students are away from campus right now, there's still a flurry of activity as we prepare for a new academic year.
Here's some of what we have accomplished or is under way:
  • A new turf field has been installed.
  • The basketball court in the Fuller Activities Center has been refinished.
  • St. Anne Hall is undergoing a facelift.
  • The Campus Center is in the throes of a massive renovation that will provide new entrances, an elevator, fireplaces, soft seating, new tables and chairs in the dining hall and a new roof.
Please join us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception on Wednesday, August 28, at 4 p.m. at the Bishop Flanagan Campus Center. Light refreshments will be served. No RSVP is necessary.
The BRIDGE Program
The BRIDGE Program is a mentorship-based initiative that supports the success of men of color at Anna Maria by providing a myriad of resources to help them attain their goals and earn a college degree.
The BRIDGE Program was created in response to research suggesting that in order to retain and academically stimulate men of color, mentorship and an established sense of inclusion on campus are necessary.
The acronym comes from Balance Responsibility Integrity Development Growth Evolution, and these areas are highlighted throughout the program. Participants will have opportunities to build social capital while planning for life after Anna Maria through mentorship, civic engagement, workshops, internships, and volunteering in Worcester and beyond.
The BRIDGE Program is fully staffed and facilitated by male alumni of color and the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Briana-Allyn Amissah.
The program can't be successful without alumni involvement; as a result, we're looking for more alums to serve as mentors. Please contact the Director of Diversity and Inclusion at This email address is being protected from spambots. Faculty Spotlight
Connie Galli '82
The Shepherd Hill Regional High School auditorium was recently named in honor of retired music teacher Connie Vanco Galli '82.
Ms. Galli began her job as a music educator at Shepherd Hill Regional School soon after graduating from Anna Maria with a bachelor of music in music education. She spent her entire career at Shepherd Hill, building the choral, guitar, piano, and music technology programs, as well as 3 competitive show choirs including Fantasy which was one of the first show choirs in New England.
During her 35 years at Shepherd Hill, Ms. Galli estimates that she taught more than 5,000 students, imparting her love for music to all.
"Brick by brick, she built the Shepherd Hill music program into something of a juggernaut, something that is well-known truly throughout the country." said former Dudley-Charlton Superintendent of Schools Gregg J. Desto.
Ms. Galli leaves the program in good hands with former student and 1987 Shepherd Hill graduate Becky Bussiere.
After retiring in June, 2017, Ms. Galli joined the Anna Maria College Music Department as an adjunct instructor. Still involved with the choral programs and Show Choir, Ms. Galli volunteers at Shepherd Hill and works with many area choirs as a clinician and adjudicator.
The Connie Vanco Galli Auditorium was officially unveiled during a ceremony and concert on June 9.
