The minor in American Studies helps a student to see his or her major through a developing American identity.  Through studying a range of interdisciplinary and interdivisional courses, the student will develop a well-rounded view of America, as well as his or her place in it.  During the course of study, the student will consider how America came to be in its present form, where its people have come from, what the nation’s unique identity is like, how that identity reflects the multiplicity of cultures within the country, and how these different cultures are reflected in the creative offerings of Americans.  The program approaches American Studies from multiple perspectives: humanities, arts and social sciences.
