AMC President Joins Campaign for Gun Safety

Anna Maria College announces that its President, Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., is one of more than 160 college presidents who signed an open letter in support of stricter gun laws.  The letter is  part of the campaign: College Presidents for Gun Safety, and targets elected officials and  lawmakers.  It states that while the signatories don’t oppose gun ownership, they do oppose proposed legislation in  many states that would  make gun possession on college campuses legal.  The elimination of  gun loopholes is also noted in the letter along with support for reinstating the expired ban on assault weapons.  The letter also addresses the need for improved identification and treatment of  mental health-related issues.

AMC Campus Community to Hold Prayer Service for Newtown, CT Victims

Anna Maria College extends its thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims of the Newtown, CT tragedy. The campus community will gather in Jacques conference room on Sunday, December 16, 2012  at 7:00 p.m. for a Prayer Service.

AMC Hosts Special Holiday Concert
December 11, 2012

Anna Maria College recently hosted a special holiday concert featuring its student musical groups, as well as guest soloist, Manna KnJoi.  Coordinated and directed Dr. Reginald Houze, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Programs, students in AMC’s Wind Ensemble, Chorus, Camerata, and Jazz Ensemble groups performed classical and familiar holiday music in the College’s Zecco Performing Arts Center.  President Jack P. Calareso also made an appearance assisting the percussion section during Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride.

Dr. Houze was joined by Steve Skop, bassist, who directed the jazz ensemble, Peter Sulski, a former member of the London Symphony Orchestra, who led the Cammerata, and Ian Watson, whose international career includes artistic director for the Arcadia Players and Chorus, who directed the AMC Chorus.  Manna KnJoi, soprano and  guest soloist, made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2012 performing in Madame Butterfly with the New York Lyric Opera Theatre.

AMC Sends Gear to Troops in Afghanistan

Anna Maria College announces that its student Social Action Group held a campus-wide campaign to collect and send comforting products from the College to soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.  The Group collected 14 under-armor compression cold-gear shirts that were donated by the Faculty along with numerous other items contributed by members of the campus community.   Nineteen boxes were filled and shipped to the troops in Afghanistan via the son of AMC College Professor, Julienne Ugalde.  Professor Ugalde and Professor MaryAnn Ulevich serve as faculty advisors to the Social Action Group.

Anna Maria College Professor Speaks at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA

Anna Maria College announces that Nursing Professor Patricia Bartzak, DNP, was asked to present her research at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA, during its Celebration of Women in Medicine and Science Month as part of its Women's Research Day activities.  This event highlights the collaborations and research achievements of women faculty and trainees at BW/F. The program focuses on the collaborations of women researchers across different disciplines including basic, clinical and translational research.

Dr. Bartzak is a graduate of Emmanuel College and received her MSN from St. Joseph’s College and her DNP from Thomas Jefferson University.
