PAXTON, Mass. – Junior Jen Thompson (Easton, Md.) scored a game-high 10 goals, propelling the Mount Ida women’s lacrosse team to a 19-4 victory over Anna Maria College during the Mustangs’ program debut at AMCAT Field on Thursday evening. The Mustangs improve to 1-0 with the win, while the AMCATS drop to 0-2 on the season.
Thompson paced the Mustangs with her 10 goals, putting 13 of her 16 shots on goal. Junior Danielle Chuba (Wrightstown, N.J.) also played well, collecting seven points on six goals and an assist, while also grabbing a team-high six ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Lourdes Pena (Lawrence, Mass.) came into the game with 12 minutes remaining in the first half and went on to make six saves in net for the AMCATS.
The AMCATS jumped on the board early in the first half, as Hevy scored on a free position shot after just 16 seconds of action.
The Mustangs then grabbed the lead on consecutive unassisted goals by Thompson less than two minutes apart.
After Hevy tied the score on her second free position goal of the half, the Mustangs responded by running off six unanswered goals, including four from Thompson to build an 8-2 advantage.
AMC received unassisted tallies from both Hevy and Moore before the end of the half, but went into the break trailing 9-4.
The Mustangs then took control in the second half, scoring 10 unanswered goals and outshooting the AMCATS 18-5 in the period, to capture the 19-4 win in their program opener.
Mount Ida will take the field again on Saturday when they play Pine Manor at 1:00 pm at a neutral location, while Anna Maria will look to bounce back when they host Lasell on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.

A Message from David Shea, Director of Athletics
What a wonderful time of year it is in Athletics. A chance to look back at all of the positive things that happened last year and a chance to look forward to of the great things to come.
During 2008-09, we successfully completed the inaugural seasons of four new programs (men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse). Despite the many challenges that first-year programs face, each team was able to capture at least one victory. This success has all of our coaches, students, and faculty excited about the future of each program.
I am also extremely proud of the community service projects each of our athletes were involved in. Whether it was on or off campus, all of our student athletes carried out the mission of the Sisters of Saint Anne by helping out in the community and assisting those in need.

Chelsea Blair
Freshman Chelsea Blair captured her second TCCC Rookie of the Week Award this past Monday.

Blair is currently averaging 9.6 rebounds per game, and her 220 total boards are just two shy of the AMC single season freshman rebounding record. Chelsea will have two games to surpass Stacy Cline’s freshman mark of 222 rebounds set during the 1997-98 season.
