Master of Social Work

Since opening its doors in 1974, Anna Maria College has educated more than 1,000 social workers redrequestinfoBOLDwith a Bachelors in Social Work degree, being the only provider of social work education in Central Massachusetts. Anna Maria College is now offering a Master of Social Work (MSW) program that will be accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Anna Maria's Master of Social Work program will follow a Cohort model. Students will be accepted in the Fall of 2017 in a full or part-time program. Our MSW program will run on weeknights and weekends in Paxton, MA.

Anna Maria's MSW program prepares students for Advanced Generalist in a variety of areas of interests:

  • Administration in Social Work
  • School Social Work
  • Teen Counseling
  • Marriage and Family Counseling
  • Medical Social Work
  • Psychiatric Social Work
  • Child Welfare Services
  • Geriatrics
  • Hospice
  • Crisis Centers


The MSW program has the following degree options:

  • Full time: 62 credits completed in two years
  • Part time: 62 credits typically completed in three years
  • Advanced Standing: applicants who have a BSW may qualify for advanced placement of 30+ credits completed over three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer)


Field Placements

Anna Maria College’s MSW curriculum is uniquely designed as students take classes while doing concurrent fieldwork. You get the chance to apply what you learn, not at the end of your program, but during your program.  Students are placed in a variety of social service agencies throughout central Massachusetts and beyond. Your field work will give you an opportunity to work with diverse populations and we will assist you in selecting an appropriate and convenient field placement. If you work at a social service agency, you may be able to complete your field work there.
